Who We Are
Founded by Gregg Linzey, Chewish Deli began its' journey in the fall of 2018 in his apartment on N Fayette St. in Old Town Alexandria. Gregg was a hobby baker looking to make some good bagels like he had back home in the Northeast. While experimenting with his recipe he thought he might have an opportunity to bring good bagels to Old Town. After some taste testing (shout out to many of the staff and regular customers at Murphy's Irish Pub for tasting and feedback), he partnered with a local restaurant and began a weekend popup. The original bagel brand, Genuine Water Bagels, was launched November 10th of 2018 and was a quick success. During 2019 the weekends were expanded into a full time operation, at that time called The Old Neighborhood Deli. When the partnership with that restaurant ended in December of 2019, Gregg knew he wanted to launch a a new brand and a truck. He spent the next few months delivering bagels to peoples homes and offices while getting the truck built and Chewish Deli was officially launched in March of 2020. After 6 months on the road with the truck Chewish Deli moved into their permanent location at 807 Pendleton St.
Fast forward to 2024 and the Chewish team is 12 amazing members strong serving over 6,000 bagels a week. The Chewish Deli team is one of the hardest working groups of people in Old Town. As a local community business we love to get to know our customers, give back to the community, create opportunities and make an impact.
We look forward to continuing to grow are brand and our team and look to continue to be a staple of the Old Town community.
